Passing through Gardner, the chair-town, with increasing hunger from descending adventures in New Hampshire we Yelped for breakfast and found Gabbys Place: 4.5 stars (Remember it is Gardner Massachusetts). When we pulled up it was not what we expected. The place from the outside looked like a converted little house-trailer, set at the roadside; a leftover from the American sixties. There were many cars in the lot so certainly the locals we figured liked the place but good reviews included out-of-towners. We figured we might have to wait for a seat and were about to drive away and move onto another place when we decided we would take our chances instead of continuing to drive around; we were hungry. People were walking out as we approached the screen door. The place was even smaller inside. A sixteen foot counter and five tables along the wall for seatings of four. An American dinner! There were two empty tables. We were happy and sat ourselves. Service was prompt; coffee was fresh, strong, and endless. Nice touch! Food was fresh and tasty too: see photos for view. Prices reasonable, however, be aware: CASH ONLY! When we offered to wash dishes to pay for our meals we were told the dishwasher would have none of it. So we brought out the king: Cash! Friendly place of which we, if in the area again, would stop in for some grub and brew.

I ordered hash the person next to me had home made hash. It looked really good.My order came out with canned hash. Which was mostly potato's and salty. If she warned me I was getting canned hash I would have ordered bacon.

This is the great local breakfast dive. Simple, honest, and dependable. Also not far off the beaten path just far enough.

Probably one of the best breakfasts I have ever had! I would drive another hour and half to go there again. Our waitress was very attentive, outgoing, and funny. It's obviously a place we're all the locals go because everyone was greeted by name. The eggs were fresh as well as the veggies and coffee. Huge portions for cheap! Delicious:)
